Success from a Higher Perspective

A Christ follower’s success should be measured in what we do to bring glory to God’s great name. A great verse that makes the point is Proverbs 16:3: Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. That is a verse with an incredible promise. Unfortunately all too often we have wrong motives for success by making it about our desires instead of what pleases and honors God.

As Christ followers we shouldn’t measure success the same way others do. Acquisitions have nothing to do with it. Recognition has nothing to do it. Money has nothing to do with it. How many programs offered has nothing to do with it. Building size has nothing to do with it. As a matter of fact when it comes to a local church body being successful it doesn’t even depend on how many people attend on Sunday morning.

That being said, remember that God intends for His church to thrive _ to be successful. Maybe you’ll get the kind of results that impresses people; maybe you won’t but you can be sure of this: Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and God will pour out His blessing. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will arrange for your plans to match His purpose. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and people will be drawn to Jesus. Commit to the Lord whatever you do and you will find yourself looking at success from a higher perspective _ you will see things the way God sees things. So church, Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.
